Jumpstart Read for the Record was a success, with Mrs. Treasure reading to almost thirty children, some at Little Kids in North Falmouth, and some at The Cape Cod Conservatory in Falmouth, MA.

She wrote a new Lama song for the occasion, and recommends all of the Llama books by Anna Dewdney, which can be purchased at Amazon.

Cape Cod Conservatory Hosts Jumpstart Program with Mrs. Treasure

On Thursday, October 6, The Cape Cod Conservatory and Treasure Time Productions will be sponsoring a Jumpstart Read for the Record program. This story session will be held at The Cape Cod Conservatory in Falmouth for pre and early elementary school aged children. The name of the book which will be read is Llama Llama Red Pajama, by Anna Dewdney. Mrs. Treasure, who is actually Lee Drescher, will come in costume and sing some guitar songs which relate to Lamas and other animals. She will also play games and offer a craft activity.

The objective of this event is to have as many people as possible reading the same book on the same day. Founded in 1993, Jumpstart is a national organization “which aims to prepare young children for success by helping them to build vital literacy, social and emotional skills with the help of caring adults.” As it happens, the Conservatory sponsors a regular story hour on Thursdays at 4PM, and so they have generously offered their support for reading and Jumpstart by offering this special event for no charge.

Ms. Drescher works with children in libraries and schools. She is a past teacher and has two graduate degrees in education. She believes that the arts of music, drama and dance are important in helping kids learn literacy, as well as hands on art activities. She has conducted story hours throughout Massachusetts, and done plays about picture books plays in Mashpee and Falmouth for six years. She also has made over thirty cable TV programs, both in Falmouth and Wellesley, MA.

The Cape Cod Conservatory is affiliated with The Cape Cod Symphony and offers art and music courses in many capacities, starting with young children up through high school, including opera and art seminars for senior citizens and everyone in between. Grant Award for Programs in South Boston

Treasure Time is proud to announce that they have received a grant to conduct literacy/ arts programs in South Boston, Massachusetts. Mrs. Treasure will be working in libraries, day care centers and schools to perform plays and story hours. Her first story hour will be at the South Boston branch of the Boston Public Library on Wednesday, January 19, at 10:30AM.

A Christmas Book recommended by Mrs. Treasure- Grumpy Badger's Christmas

This simple, cute story is written by Paul Bright and nicely illustrated by Jane Chapman. Does anyone ever feel grumpy, especially at this time of year? When the little forest animals are busy getting ready for a Christmas celebration, all Grumpy Badger wants to do is go to bed and sleep. Every time he crawls underneath his warm comforter, someone bangs on his door and asks for something like a ladder or a string of lights. Finally Grumpy falls asleep but he dreams of his friend Mole stuck at the top of the tree. So he jumps out of bed, grabs his ladder and decides to participate in all the frivolity after all. In fact, he hosts the party!

A Winter Giving Activity

At this Holiday time of year when Winter is coming and we give thanks and give gifts to others, here is an idea for the birds and small animals. Do you have some stale crackers or chips in your cupboard? If you have a yard, break them up into little pieces, spread them out on the ground and see who comes to eat them. If you live in the city, take them to the Park or put a little tray feeder outside of your window and watch to see who comes to the feast.

Roscoe and Molly like this idea but these tidbits are for the birds.

ANOTHER GOOD BOOK TO READ
Not only is Dory Story a fun book to read, it's also about science and the food chain along the east coast of New England. Its about water safety too, and about going out in a boat alone. The illustrations in this book are exceptional. This big fish story has a surprise ending which will enchant the pros and present a cautionary tale for the inexperienced.

I highly recommend this book for ages 3 to 10. and give it 5 stars.
